沖縄最南端・八重山の島々では今も森から命をいただき、草木で染めて布を織っています。海で晒したその布は着物に仕立てて祭りでまとわれ命が宿る。そんな暮らしのなかで習った手仕事を、私の『点』から、次の方へつなげたいと思っています。

産業以前。「染織の全工程を一人でする」という古くから私たちの先祖が続けていた手仕事としての織。

それは、営々と続いてきた知恵だったり業です。

私自身はアーティストでも伝統工芸士でもありません。　

ただただ時間のある時にこつこつと時には好奇心と面白さから続けてきた『こと』の一つです。

女たちが、家族のために自分のために、それからたぶん地域の祭りのために織っていた普段の布を織れるようになりたい。

1000年以上続いている織の仕事の基本を、お繋します。関心のある方は、工房天月においでください。

Weaving is an old technique that women in our society have been doing for ourselves, our family, and our community for a long time. I learned how to weave in the southern islands of Japan/Okinawa. The island was called IRIOMOTE. There, people practice the whole process of weaving including making their own dye from plants, making thread, and using that thread to sew Kimono all by themselves. Women used to practice this all over the world prior to the industrial revolution, however the practice of weaving has almost disappeared due to the changes in our lifestyle.

I am not an artist and have merely kept up this practice as a hobby and passion. I practice and improve little by little every day. Now, I would like to pass the art of weaving on to someone else.
